The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity, not some ethereal nothingness. He a Person, just as there is God the Father, and God the Son. All three are perfectly One and totally God. The fact is the human mind has difficulty understanding the true concept of God, for He is Spirit, John 4:24, outside everything, encompassing everything and inside everything.
Divine Attributes
The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit all have the attributes of God, for they are God. How does the human mind get around all that?
The Father provided the Way of salvation, the Son provides justification and the Holy Spirit does the work of sanctification in the life of the believer. Satan wants you to be confused about how the Holy Spirit works and who He is.
The Spirit of God has a personality, intellect, consciousness, emotions and feelings, with all the Divine attributes. He glorifies Christ, intercedes for the believer, has a will and serves God, Acts 16:6,7.
Work of the Spirit
The Spirit of God is active in the lives of all who accept God’s free gift of salvation, John 3:15, Romans 5:15. He was at work in the Son to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to earth, Luke 3:22, just as He was at work in the very beginning, Genesis 1:2.
The Holy Spirit helps us with our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as we should. The Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
The Holy Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God, Romans 8:26,27. Jesus is seated at the right hand of God, also interceding for us, Romans 8:34.
The Holy Spirit and Salvation
The Spirit of God is omnipresent, Psalm 139:7-10 and the guarantor, or underwriter, of our salvation and our eternal inheritance, Ephesians 1:13,14. He assures us of our salvation and acceptance by our Heavenly Father, Romans 8:14-16.
No man can say Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit, 1 Corinthians 12:3.
Indwells
We are a temple of the God and the Spirit of God dwells in us, just as Jesus promised, 1 Corinthians 3:16. He helps us grow to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fulness of Christ, Ephesians 4:13.
The Spirit is a spirit of adoption assuring us we are sons of God, Romans 8:15. He witnesses to us of the things of God, and we are to abide in Him, 1 John 2:27
Holy Spirit’s Project
We are the Holy Spirit’s project and He never leaves us, John 14:18. He is the supernatural and sovereign agent in the restoration of all believers, for we were bought with a price, 1 Corinthians 6:19,20. He seals us as a sign of ownership, proof of God’s love and His protection.
We grieve the Holy Spirit, Ephesians 4:30 when we refuse to accept Go’s free gift of salvation. God only wants the very best for us and His Spirit will lead us into all things, Romans 8:14. The Spirit yearns for us to yield to the will of the Father, just as Jesus did.
The Comforter
Jesus said He would ask the Father to give another Helper, or Comforter. He would take the place of Jesus and do the Son’s work on earth, John 14:16.
The Spirit of God is our comfort in a world that knows only chaos, for it is satanically driven. We are living in the Days of Noah, where every intent of the thoughts of man’s heart is only evil continuously, Genesis 6:5. This points to Jesus secretly calling away His chosen people, His Bride, Matthew 24:37, 1 Thessalonians 4:17.
Sanctification
The Holy Spirit does the progressive work of sanctification, 1 Corinthians 6:11. Through the Spirit we are renewed, and regenerated by divine cleansing, Titus 3:5
The Father disciplines those He loves and chastises every son whom He receives, Hebrews 12:5,6. The Spirit of God nudges us into the right way. Sanctification means you were going down the wrong road, but God takes you and leads you to the right road. His Spirit will guide you into all truth, John 16:13.
Supernatural Knowledge
The Spirit of God is the Supreme Instructor, knowing the end from the beginning, Isaiah 46:10. He knows the wonders God has in store for us, as He searches the deep things of God, 1 Cor 2:9-11. He tells us what we need, to be able to live as followers of Christ. The Spirit also testifies to the work the Son did at Calvary, John 16:11.
The Spirit of God only speaks the Word and that Word is Jesus, John 1:1. Train yourself to wait and listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Still your mind and meditate on the Word of God.
Power of the Holy Spirit
Jesus said to His disciples, ‘You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you’, Acts 1:8, We need that power to be effective witnesses for Him and to live in a war zone, where Satan is the Prince of the power of the air, Ephesians 2:2.
Jesus is the Way, John 14:6, but the Spirit empowers us to have a special relationship with the Father, to call Him Abba! Father, Romans 8:15, and to have a relationship with one another.
Our Protection
We are promised that any time the enemies come against us like a flood, the Holy Spirit will raise a standard against the enemy, Isaiah 59:19.
He is our protection in a sin-sick world, Psalm 121:7-8, for no weapon that is formed against us can prosper, Isaiah 54:17.
Supernatural Gifting
The Spirit of God gives you the ability to do things you would not do naturally, 1 Corinthians 12:4-11. The Spirit gives you gifts that honour God and makes you a blessing to others. These are wisdom, understanding, counsel, strength, knowledge, and fear of the Lord, Isaiah 11:2.
Then, there is the fruit of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, Galatians 5:22.
Conviction of Sin
Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth whom the world cannot receive. He convicts the world of sin and righteousness and judgement, John 16:8. The Spirit reveals hidden sin in our lives, for the Holy Spirit is light and sin is darkness.
You cannot be friends of the world, for the world cannot accept who you are and hates you. Without even speaking you convict others of their need for salvation, for you are the light of the world, Matthew 5:14.
Baptism of the Holy Spirit
All receive the Spirit of God at salvation, but Paul speaks of a further infilling of the Spirit, known as the baptism of the Holy Spirit, Acts 1:5, Acts 19:6. This is a choice the believer makes. It is a heavenly prayer language where you speak to God, not man, 1 Corinthians 14:2, bypassing the natural mind.
Jesus said ‘How much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him, Luke 11:13. You can receive the baptism of the Spirit if you are Born Again. We are to become like little children and live by the Spirit and also walk by the Spirit, Ephesians 5:25. It is the Spirit of God who helps you worship God in spirit and in truth, John 4:23,24, for you were created to worship God.
