How to answer five most difficult questions is something that Christians have long struggled with. The answers are not hard when you take the Whole Counsel of God.

Question 1 – Why Does God Allow Suffering?

God is all powerful, all knowing and ever present. Yet, the world is full of:

• Wars and rumours of war
• Diseases – wreaking havoc
• Man’s abuse of man
• Natural disasters
• Mankind suffering.

Sin is the result of disobedience, Genesis 3, and the wages of sin is death, Romans 6:23. All people are born with a sin nature – therefore we must be Born Again of the Spirit not of the flesh, John 3:5.

Godly Purpose

God has a purpose for allowing suffering – what Satan designs for our destruction, God uses for good, to bring about a certain result, Genesis 50:20.

It is in the fiery trials, 1 Peter 4:12, that God reveals the treasures of darkness, Isaiah 45:3. In the fiery trials: In the fiery trials:

• Our faith is tested and character built, 1 Peter 1: 6,7
• We learn discipline, Hebrews 12:7
• Spiritual growth takes place and reliance on God grows, James 1:2,3
• God reveals Himself to the believer.

Time is the training ground for citizenship in heaven. For those who overcome through a covenantal relationship established in Christ, the results are beyond belief.

Nothing is Accidental

Creation is the outflow of Divine Love. In God nothing is accidental – All things work together for good to those who love God and to those who are called according to His purpose, Romans 8:28.

God has an eternal plan and purpose for each one of us – time is only a small portion of it. Compared to eternity, this suffering is for a short time only, 1 Peter 5:10.

Empathy

God is Spirit, John 4:24, existing outside time, space and matter, yet has empathy with our suffering, Hebrews 4:15. In eternity He preordained a Way, John 14:6, to reinstate our broken relationship through the sinless shed blood of Christ. Without the shedding of blood there is no redemption, Hebrews 9:22. For the wages of sin is death, Romans 6:23.

Through God’s eternal plan of redemption, history moves continuously towards restoration and fulness. Creation groans to be free of the curse of sin and death, Romans 8:22. In Christ, redeemed man returns to the eternal state God intended for him.

Question 2 – How can a loving God send people to an eternal hell?

This questions the very nature of God – the divine love and justice of the great I Am That I Am, Exodus 3:14. How can love and judgement coexist? God is:

• Infinite – without origin
• Self-existing – self-sufficient – unchanging
• All powerful, all-knowing, ever present
• Holy and perfect in all His ways

No attribute of God can contradict another.  His love, holiness, mercy and justice all work in unison.

God can have nothing unholy in His presence, Revelation 21:27.  When man chooses to reject God’s gift of salvation, God must reject the unrepentant sinner.

God knew from eternity the choice we would make, Psalm 139: 16, for God is a ‘Now’ God, knowing the end from the beginning, Isaiah 46:10. Our name was written in the book of life before the foundation of the world, Revelation 13:7 and that name will not be removed, Revelation 3:5. Unbelievers names written in a different book, Revelation 20:20:12. God would that none should perish, 2 Peter 3:9.

Three things:

• Hell is part of eternity – only the Now exists, no time
• Those dwelling in God’s presence will have no memory of former things, Isaiah 65:17 and nothing to do with the judgement of God.
• Hell is the eternal dwelling place of Satan and his demonic hordes – never designed for man.

Question 3 – How could Jesus Christ be fully Man and fully God?

How was Jesus 100% divine and 100% human at the same time?  He was One Person with two natures that did not contradict each other. Throughout His earthly walk, the Son of Man remained faithful and true to His divine nature – the Son of God.

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, – tabernacled with us, John 1:1,14. God entered time in human form, so that He might legally redeem fallen mankind and crush the enemy, Genesis 3:15. At the request of the Father, the infinite, ageless One, became finite for a short 33 1/2 years, at the request of the Father.

Only the sinless Son of God could pay the price to legally buy us back – redeem us. God made Jesus, who knew no sin, to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him, 2 Corinthians 5:21. The fact that Jesus was totally God and totally man, encourages us that we can live an earthly life yet be heavenly minded, Colossians 3:2.

Seed of the Woman

It is generally accepted the seed of humanity comes through the man – the woman has no seed. However, the bible said a virgin would give birth to a son, Isaiah 7:14, who would be God’s Messiah.

Mary was found with child by the Holy Spirit, Matthew 1:9 – conceived from the Spirit of God. The seed of the woman would bruise Satan’s heel, but her seed would overcome the enemy. Genesis 3:15.

Question 4 – How Can God be One and Yet Be Three?

The Bible teaches the doctrine of the Trinity – Three Persons:

• Father
• Son
• Holy Spirit.

They are One God, not three gods. Each Person of the Godhead moving in total unison with one another. What the Father does, the Son does and the Holy Spirit does. There is no:

• Division
• Separate will
• Separate agenda. 

All three are involved in every event. Jesus’ Baptism is a good example:

• Jesus was the One baptized
• The Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, John 1:32
• The Father spoke, Matthew 3:17.

The deity and humanity of Christ are a mystery, so too is the operation of the Trinity of God. These things are accepted by faith, Hebrews 11:1. My thoughts are not your thoughts. Nor are your ways My ways, declares the Lord, Isaiah 55: 8.

Question 5: Do Humans Really Have Free Will?

If God knows everything and we are predestined, do humans actually have a free will?

God gave man a free will – He did not create robots. He is a loving Heavenly Father and by our free will we choose to accept or reject God. By choice we can also choose to mature to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fulness of Christ, Ephesians 4:13.

Predestination comes only from God knowing the end from the beginning, Isaiah 46:10. He knows the decision we will make about Him, in this testing journey called time.

Wipe Satan Out

God could have wiped Satan out when pride was found in him as the archangel, Lucifer, Isaiah 14: 10-14; Ezekiel 28:11-19. Adam and Eve chose to disobey God by accepting a lie from a fallen angel, Genesis 3:4. Adam made the choice and God does not override man’s fee will, nor can He go against His own word, Genesis 2:16. Eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and in that day you will surely die, Genesis 2:17.

God does not make our decisions for us – He honours our right to choose. He is a loving Heavenly Father even when we make the wrong choices His arms are always open to the prodigal son, Luke 15:20.
