How to Align our Will to God’s Will6 min read

How to align our will to God’s will is a journey and should be the desire of every true follower of Christ. It is a journey of deep spiritual surrender, faith and active obedience.

Seek God’s Face

Following the example of Jesus Christ, we should be always seeking the face of the Father. He sought the will of the Father no matter the cost, Luke 22:42. He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him, 2 Corinthians 5:21.

While on earth, Jesus spoke in parables, or dark sayings, for the unbeliever cannot comprehend the deep truths of heaven. Followers of Christ are kings and priests of the kingdom of God, 1 Peter 2:9-12, with the privilege of entering the King’s presence and knowing His voice, John 10:27. He who has ears to hear let him hear, Mark 4:23.

The Word

We also have the privilege of holding the living Word of God in our hands. It is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, Psalm 119:105. The Bible reveals to us who God is through His character and His ways.

He desires to have His will done on earth as it is in heaven, Matthew 6:10 and chooses to use His servants to do this. Opting to align our will with His will is of vital importance, for He dwells in the followers of Christ, John 14:23, and empowers them to align their will with His will.

However, it is vital that you search and know the Scriptures. The Bible is a whole library of books written by many different authors over 1500 years, in a wide variety of situations. It reveals the will of God and His earnest desire for fellowship with the created, John 3:16.

The Ego

Our ego is a major deterrent to aligning our will with the will of God. We need to let go of personal ambitions and desires and seek God’s desires, Matthew 6:33. The blessings of yielding to God’s will are endless. Too often Christians mess things up by doing things ‘their way’. The blessings of yielding to God’s will are endless.

True followers of Christ take up their cross daily and follow Him, Matthew 16:24. Humans are finite beings with finite minds unable to comprehend all that God has in store for them, 1 Corinthians 2:9. Obeying the Spirit is the only way to true blessing.

God is infinite knowing the end from before the beginning, Isaiah 46:10. Often the things God asks us to do pushes us out of our comfort zone. God is Spirit, John 4:24, so aligning our will with the will of God is spiritual, not natural. His ways are higher than ours and His thoughts than our thoughts, Isaiah 55:8,9.

Spiritual Teacher

The Holy Spirit is the teacher of truth, a Comforter and a revealer of the deep things of God, 1 Corinthians 2:10. He is the One who speaks through deep inner promptings to our born again spirit.

It takes patience and practice to listen, hear and obey those promptings. All too often we say ‘Oh that is just my thoughts’ and cast them aside to our detriment.

Faith

Humans demand proof before they believe, but faith demands belief before there is proof. Faith in God is a major player in aligning our will to the will of God. Without faith it Is impossible to please God, Hebrews 11:6. Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen, Hebrews 11:1.

Patience also plays a major role, for God’s timing is perfect, Ecclesiastes 3:11. It is our own impatience that gets in the way as it did with so many of the Old Testament saints. God always answers when we ask Him for something, for Jesus said, Ask and it will be given you. Seek and you will find. Knock and it will be opened to you, Luke 11:9. However, things may not happen when we want them to.

Pray for the sick and believe that by His scourging they are healed, Isaiah 53:5. God alone is the Healer and that person will be whole in His time, either here on earth or in eternity. Thank God for the healing and leave the rest to Him. Always expect more than you can see, as the Spirit of God witnesses to your spirit. If you abide in Me and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you, John 15:7. Faith is the key and that faith is a gift from God, Ephesians 2:8.

Trust

You have faith that a chair will hold you when you sit on it, but why do you trust the chair? Trust is confidence based on past experiences or evidence. Yet trust is inseparable from faith, for it is confidence that God can and will do what He says. My word which goes forth from My mouth it will not return to me void, Isaiah 55:11.

To align our will with the will of God is to have total trust that God will fulfill all His promises and not one will remain unfulfilled. That is an awesome belief, for there are promises of blessings and promises of judgement.

Thankfulness

A major part of aligning your will with the will of God is being aware of all the good things God has done in your life, past present and future. Thankfulness leads to true worship and adoration of the great I Am That I Am, Exodus 3:14.

Authentic worship deepens our intimacy with God and strengthens our willpower to do things God’s way. Once you start seeing the goodness of God it becomes a daily habit, and you notice all the small things God does for you. It’s not looking for big miracles only, but the miracle is that God does so many little things for you on a daily basis.

Align Our Will to God’s Will

How to align your will to God’s will is all about embarking on a journey that continues into eternity. It is a relationship that is never static but always growing. Like Aaron’s rod, there is the bud, the bloom and the fruit all at the same time, Numbers 17:23. There is always something beginning to bud, another thing that is in bloom and yet other things that are bearing fruit.

In this life, the ending of something is always the beginning of something else. The key is to never standstill, or you will find yourself going backwards. Something is always happening in the believers life. To align our will to God’s will is a daily task and a privilege, from which abundant blessings flow, when you seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, Matthew 6:33.
