The bond that ties remains a deep mystery to mankind. It is a bond that God created in eternity past. a bond that God has with the all His creation.
In The Beginning
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth, Genesis 1:1. He was like an artist looking at a blank canvas. Only the artist can see what is and what will be on that canvas and what he creates becomes part of himself, for ever an invisible bond.
God created all creation out of nothing, in spite of scientists long trying to prove differently through various elaborate hypotheses. The Genesis record is much simpler than any theory man has come up with. After all, man is part of that creation, having been made in the likeness of God, Genesis 1:26.
God said, 6 times in the Genesis record, that what He created He saw that it was good. After the final creation of man God looked and saw that all He had created was very good, Genesis 1:31.
God created a strong bond between Himself and all that He created. It is the same bond an artist feels toward his work, for it came from inside Him.
The Source
The source if the bond that ties is clearly defined in the bible. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God, John 1:1. The word created everything.
Just as amazing is the statement, The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, John 1:4. Millenia after creation, God chose to dwell among His creation as one of the created. He who had created the universe chose to come in the form of a helpless baby.
There is no way we would have put all our plans in just one man, Adam, who we knew would fail. God knows the end from the beginning, Isaiah 46:10, so before He created Adam and placed him in the perfect Garden of Eden, God had an eternal plan to redeem fallen man and all His creation. From a human point of view this all seems incomprehensible. Why not just create a perfect world, a perfect man and leave it at that?
The problem is that creating a positive means there is a negative. Adam was given the gift of a free will, which means he had the ability to accept or reject the will of God. God did not make robots, but wants people who will worship Him from a free heart.
Descended
Fallen man had no way of reaching into heaven so He made the Way, John 14:6. Only God could breach the gap by redeeming sinful man and qualifying him to enter God’s holy presence. God’s ways are not our ways nor His thoughts our thoughts, Isaiah 55:8.
In obedience to the Father, the Son of God left His home in heaven, John 3:13, and came down to dwell in a sin-ridden world that He might die in our place. He left the glory of the holy, heavenly courts to come to die at the hands of mortal man.
Christ on Earth
It is difficult to image how Christ saw the world from our perspective. What God had created perfect, the created ones have polluted to such a degree it is difficult to see the beauty that once was.
Christ, who was total man and total God, kept His eyes on His mission and that was to do the will of the Father. The Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner, John 5:19.
In the life of Jesus we see more of the bond that ties heaven and earth together, in the way Jesus communicated with the Father. Christ knew He had been born to die the cruelest of death at the hands of sinful man, for we were redeemed and bought with a price, 1 Corinthians 6:19, that is without measure. Redeemed man is the greatest treasure on earth.
More Evidence of the Bond
Mary Magdalene came to the garden to grieve the death of her Master. Instead, she discovered the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ. The One who overcame death and the grave. The One who defeated the arch enemy Satan.
Then she heard her Lord say something amazing, ‘Stop clinging to Me for I have not yet ascended to the Father’, John 20:17. The risen Christ needed to present Himself to the Father in heaven, proving once and for all His position as the eternal High Priest, Hebrews 4:14, and the sacrifice of His sinless blood. He fulfilled all the shadows and types of the Old Covenant and the New Covenant was sealed once for all, Hebrews 7:27.
Over the next 40 days Jesus made many appearances to His disciples. He finally ascended, Luke 24:50, and took His seat at the right hand of the Father, Psalm 110:1.
More Bond That Ties
God is Lord of heaven and earth and what God wills, shall come to pass. Jesus had foretold His disciples that He must go so that the Comforter could come, John 16:7. Jesus also promised that those who love the Lord and keep His word will be indwelt by the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, John 14:23.
The presence of God was in Moses Tabernacle, symbolized by the Ark of the Covenant. Under the New Covenant, the followers of Christ are the temple of God, 1 Corinthians 3:16.
The Millennial Bond
Christ not only came to earth as a man, but He will return as the victorious Man-God with His resurrected saints, Jude 14. He will set up His kingdom on earth and rule for 1000 years, Revelation 20:6.
The bond between heaven and earth will be fulfilled to its fulness in God’s own time. Man may have failed and messed up this world, but God is the supreme Creator and Ruler of all.
New Beginning
Many believe there will be a new heaven and a new earth at the return of Christ, when the New Jerusalem descends, Revelation 21:1. Others believe the new heaven and the new earth takes place at the end of the Millennium reign, after death and Hades, Satan and all his followers are cast into the lake of fire, Revelation 20:14.
The question is, why is there a need for a new heaven and a new earth? Why not just dwell in the holiness of heaven? Yet, heaven and earth will play a major role even back into eternity, for God will tabernacle among His people, Revelation 21:3.
Conclusion
Christians have a heart-cry to be in the freedom and presence of God in heaven, yet He designed it that we would dwell on earth, as is witnessed by the coming Millennium. Yet, there is a bond between heaven and earth that can’t be broken and will exist for all eternally.
We may have messed everything up with our sinful ways, but God has an eternal plan and there are vestiges all around us of God’s good creation. Just look at a blade of grass that pops it head up after a blistering hot summer. Or a rose bud opening when the first rays of the sun hit it in the early morning light. The bond that ties heaven and earth is very strong for Christ has all authority in heaven and earth, Matthew 28:18. Look for God’s goodness in His world and seek His presence.
