Gods love and anger appear in opposition but are they? They flow from the same source – His goodness and holiness – in perfect alignment with who He is.

God’s Nature – God is love, 1 John 4:8.

God’s love is not a mood – it is who He is. Love is the essence of God and His anger is the expression of love against corruption.

His love is constant for it never changes by anything we can or will do. It is measured, intentional, creative and always directed toward restoring life and attaining the believer’s alignment.

To perceive God incorrectly is to live in fear – not freedom, for His anger is holy, purposeful and always rooted in love.

The Lord is compassionate and gracious. Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness. He will not always strive with us, nor will He keep his anger forever. He has not dealt with us according to our sins. Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities, Psalm 103:8-10.

Gods Love and Anger

God’s anger is not like human anger – impulsive, selfish and unstable. His anger is a righteous response to everything that corrupts or destroys what He loves.

His anger exists and because He Is:

• He is love – He must oppose what destroys His people
• He is Truth – He must oppose everything that stands against that truth
• He is Justice – He must confront injustice
• He is Holy – He must confront all that is unholy.

The Enemy

The enemy, Satan, is out to destroy everything that belongs to God. God’s anger is His response to:

• Sin
• Corruption  
• Everything that separates the created from the great I Am that I Am, Exodus 3:15.

Even when God is angry, He still moves toward restoration. The Great Tribulation period is about restoring Israel to her rightful place.

Justice requires response to wrong – love desires restoration through redemption. Both are in perfect balance.

Because of Gods Love and Anger

If we were God wouldn’t we have wiped Lucifer out before pride rose up in him, Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28:11-19? Wouldn’t we have wiped Adam out when he failed, and created someone else in his place? Would we have put the Son of God through the fires of Calvary?

God’s attributes are always in balance to one another. His love, His mercy, His holiness, His judgement. None can override any of the others. Therefore, God so loved the world….John 3:15.

Free Will

God gave the angels a free will, just as He has given us a free will. We were not created as robots, but have the choice to accept God in all that He is, or reject Him. 

Vengeance is Mine, I will repay. The Lord will judge His people. It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the Living God, Hebrews 10:30.

How much severer punishment do you think man will deserve who has trampled underfoot the Son of God and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which you are sanctified and has insulted the Spirit of grace, Hebrews 10:29.

God is Jealous

God’s name is Jealous for He is a jealous God, Exodus 34:14.

God’s relationship with His people is always covenantal – like a marriage. He is committed to His people. They must be committed to Him – for they are not their own, they were bought with a price, 1 Corinthians 6:20.

It is that jealousy that gives immense value to the ones who strive to be overcomers.

His jealousy is His unwavering commitment to his people and the fire of His love. Would that we all had the same jealousy for God.

Gods Love and Anger do not Divide

God is not divided within Himself. There is no tension in Him between love and anger — only perfect alignment.

God’s love is action against all distortion as seen in Satan’s five I wills, Isaiah14:13-14:

• I will ascend to heaven
• I will raise my throne above the stars of God
• I will sit on the mount of the assembly in the recesses of the north
• I will ascend above the heights of the clouds
• I will make myself like the Most high God.

Love and Anger Meet

The clearest place where love and anger meet is in Jesus Christ at Calvary.

• God does not ignore sin – that would deny His justice, holiness and righteousness
• But He also does not abandon humanity – that would deny love.

In Christ:

• Love reaches out to save/redeem/buy back
• Justice deals with sin – confronts chaos and opposition
• The enemy is soundly defeated – now and eternally

It is the place where:

• Justice is legally satisfied
• Mercy is revealed
• Separation through sin is dealt with.

The place where God’s anger is absorbed, transformed and resolved through Christ.

The Centre

The cross is central and Christ the absolute reference frame.  His five I Wills are totally opposite to Satan’s I wills, Jeremiah 31:33:

• I will put My law within in them
• On their heart I will write it
• I will be their God and they shall be My people
• I will forgive their iniquities
• And their sin I will remember no more.

Calvary is where love absorbs what anger opposes – without compromising either. His love is always deeper than what Satan would con us to believe is reality.

Calvary is where we perceive God as He is, not as human emotion projects Him to be.

Walking in Light and Truth

God is light and we must walk as children of light for once we were darkness, Ephesians 5:8. Then we deserved the wrath of God.

• Love reveals what is true and life-giving
• Anger exposes what is false and destructive – even unto eternal destruction.

Walk in all that God is, in both His love, mercy, grace, anger and judgement. Love and anger interact with reality, for to know one is to know the other.

God must love, but He must also judge, for He cannot deny His own nature.

Living in the Secret Place

In the secret place, Psalm 91, true perception is restored, for He has already dealt with everything that separates us from Him.

• God is never against us – for His love is always constant
• It is in the secret place we receive correction to all that is not of Him

That shifts everything:

• No fear of God
• No separation
• Only deeper alignment

Gods Love and Anger in Opposition?

Are Gods love and anger in opposition? He will Judge but He is also Love and Truth.

God does not confront us – He frees us from what is not reality. True followers of Christ live in the unbroken flow of divine love, never to know the anger of God.
