What is the Father’s Heart?6 min read

The Father’s heart is a heart of unconditional love because God is love, 1 John 4:8. But it is more than that. It is a heart that embraces every aspect of our lives and is both personal and intimate. He will take all eternity to show us the depths of His love.

Eternal Plan

God knew us from eternity, long before we were conceived in our mother’s womb, Jeremiah 1:5. He had an eternal plan and nothing takes God by surprise. He knows the end from the before the beginning, Isaiah 46:10.

Our natural birth is after the flesh, but we need to be Born Again of the Spirit to enter the kingdom of God, John 3:5,6. We must come as a little child to enter the kingdom of God, Matthew 18:1-3. Like a child we need to have total trust and belief in a loving parent.

Unity

God desired to manifest Himself to us so He cloaked Himself in human flesh. The Father so loved the world He sent His Son to bring the created into perfect union with Him, John 3:16. The Father’s heart always has been, is and always will be about unity, just as there is a perfect union between God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Jesus said He was One with the Father and only did what He saw the Father do, John 5:19.20. We are to be one as the Father is in the Son and the Son is one in the Father, John 17:21. Jesus went on to say, The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one just as We are one, John 17:22.

It is the love of God that binds us together in perfect harmony, Colossians 3:14. Nothing can separate us from the love of God that passes all understanding, Romans 8:31-19.

Special Treasure

God loves and treasures us as His own special possession, for we are made in His image, Genesis 1:26. We were designed to reflect His love to a sin-sick world.

More than that, God desires to reveal Himself to us through His acts of mercy, love and grace, which are new every morning, Lamentations 3:22. He also reveals Himself to us through His Word, for it is the glory of God to conceal a matter but the glory of kings is to search out a matter, Proverbs 25:2.

We were created to love the Creator in an intimate and eternal covenantal relationship. That relationship is two-way, for He desires to talk to His children and have His children talk to Him. God knows our past, present and future.

Wellbeing

In the natural the parent is responsible for the protection, provision and wellbeing of a child. A good parent is there in difficult times and good times, gently but firmly guiding and encouraging the child with great compassion and empathy.

The heart of our Heavenly Father is all that and so much more for He has a perfect plan for each one of our lives. I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope, Jeremiah 29:11.

Surrender

He knows what we need before we even ask Matthew 6:8. All He asks is that we surrender everything to His all-knowing, every-present, all-powerful understanding and wisdom. He will then lead us in paths of righteousness, Psalm 23:3,4.

He is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, Ephesians 3:14. The eye has not seen and ear has not heard and which have not entered the heart of man, all that God had prepared for those who love Him, 1 Corinthians 2:9.

Communication

To be able to have any depth of communication with a person you need to speak the same language. Spiritually, this is the same. God communicates with us through our spirit, not our head, or our heart, which are soul controlled. The Father’s heart is that we would be heavenly minded and rise above the things of this world.

The bible says, Deep calls to deep, Psalm 42:7. The Spirit of God searches all things, even the depths of God, 1 Corinthians 2:10. The Spirit is not only our Comforter, but also our great Teacher concerning the things of God, John 14:26.

Maturity

A parent needs to allow the child room to develop and grow, despite the mistakes the child makes. Hopefully, the child will learn from the mistakes.

Our heavenly Father is just the same. He gave us a free will to choose for ourself, even when we go down the wrong road. Yet, He does not condemn us, or judge us. Instead, He greatly rejoices over us with singing, Zechariah 3:17, when we repent and return to His perfect way.

The Father’s heart is that His sons and daughters will grow and mature into the fulness of the measure of the stature that belongs to Christ, Ephesians 4:13.

The Father’s Heart

The Father’s heart longs to see all His children feasting at His banqueting table, Song of Solomon 2:4. Jesus stands at the door and knocks and desires us to ask Him to come in, that He might dine with us, Revelation 3:20.

Why trust our life to our own ego-centric, unknowing, finite self, when we can roll all over onto the Father’s tender heart? He knows how we will end up, Isaiah 46:10.

Fellow-Heirs

Jesus declared from the Cross, It is finished, John 19:30. He paid the price to redeem fallen man and make the way for us to be reconciled with the Father’s heart. He overcame all the Satanic enemies of this world, Colossians 2:15 and gives us the promise of eternal life, instead of eternal death.

We are fellow-heirs with Christ, Romans 8:17. Our lives are hid in Him, Colossians 3:3. His victory is our victory for we are already seated with Christ in heavenly places, Ephesians 2:6. We cannot earn the love of God, for in Christ we have that boundless love.

Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, Hebrews 4:16. Through Christ we have instant access to the Father’s heart and all that God is. God’s love is unconditional, steadfast, undeserved and everlasting, Isaiah 40:1,2. We have access to everything that is in the Father’s heart, because the Son made the way. Enter into His perfect peace, Isaiah 26:3
