The Power of One

How to be the Power of One6 min read

How to be the Power of One is to know that your one action, or one decision, can affect a lot of other people. Anyone can be the Power of One but you need to know the keys that make you effective.

Born Again

To be truly the Power of One you must be Born Again, John 3:7. That which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Natural man operates from the flesh and the soul, but the new man learns to operate from the spirit, making God as King of his life instead of self.

God created us as body, soul and spirit, 1 Thessalonians 5:33. When you accept Christ as your Lord and Saviour you are born again and become a new creature, the old things passed away, behold new things have come, 2 Corinthians 5:17.

All authority in had been given to the Son in heaven and on earth, Matthew 28:18. The spiritual man operates through Jesus Christ and His God-given authority.

Self-Awareness

The next key on how to be the Power of One is to understand who you are in Christ Jesus. You are adopted into the kingdom of God as a son of God, Ephesians 1:5, and are fellow-heir with Christ, Romans 8:17. Your life is hid in Christ, Ephesians 3:3.

You have His authority on this earth, 2 Corinthians 5:20, just as an ambassador has the authority of the person who sent him. That authority is not given for the exaltation of self. It is important to embrace the challenges you face every day  as an opportunity to grow to the fulness of the stature that belongs to Christ, Ephesians 4:13.

Be Confident

As a forgiven, redeemed child of God you are free to walk away from your mistakes of the past. That which the devil means for our destruction, God uses for our good, in order to bring about the present result, Genesis 50:20. Know that all things work together for good for those who are called according to His purpose, Romans 8:28. Your past is your building blocks or stepping stones, but God’s hand is never too short to forgive and forget, Psalm 103:12.

Because Christ made the way, John 14:6, for you to enter into the kingdom of God, you are able to approach your holy, just, and merciful heavenly Father with confidence. You have a High Priest, Jesus, who sympathizes with you. Therefore, let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, Hebrews 4:20.

Your Father, the Great I Am That I am, Exodus 3:3, knows everything about you. Nothing takes Him by surprise, for He knew you from eternity, Jeremiah 1:5, Romans 8:29. He knows your needs before you even ask, Matthew 6:8, but He delights in you taking all your cares to Him.

Take Responsibility

God did not create you as a robot, or some clever AI. He gave you a free will so that you can make moral choices. You need to own your actions and decisions and the impact you have on others.

To seek God’s will for your life is the greatest thing you can do. He desires far more for you than you can even dream of, 1 Corinthians 2:9.

Trust

Trust Him with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straights. Do not be wise in your own eyes, Proverbs 3:5,6.

God is all-powerful and all-knowing, so why lean on your finite understanding when He knows the end from the beginning, Isaiah 46:10. You are not on your own for Christ and the Holy Spirit intercede for you, Romans 8:26, 34.

Growth Mindset

Be open to gaining knowledge and learning from failure. Eddison was among the ones who were racing to produce an effective light bulb. He had a thousand attempts before he succeeded.

Trying and not succeeding at first is all part of growing. A baby tries many times before he finally achieves the ability to walk.

People who are the Power of One has both resilience and persistence. When they are knocked down, they get up again. They don’t take offence and keep their eyes on the goal, which is to be Christ-like.

Spend Time Alone

We all need times to be alone with God. Time to self-assess and allow the body and soul to be restored. Life is a marathon, not a hundred-metre dash.

The true Power of One person spends time alone with God and knows the bible which is a living Word. It is the glory of God to conceal a matter and the privilege of a king to search it out, Proverbs 25:2.

As a child of God you belong to a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a nation of kings and priests, 1 Peter 2:9. The one who endures will succeed and inspire others by their example. Self pity is a lethal enemy of the Power of One.

Ripple Effect

Another important key to being the Power of One is that you may feel you are just one small cog in the vast wheel of humanity. However, everything you do, think and say has a ripple effect. It is like casting a stone onto the surface of a pond. See how far the effect flows out from one little stone.

A smile, or a kind word may be the thing that brightens another person’s day. While a frown has the exact opposite effect. Just as laughter is highly infectious, so too, anger begets anger.

Even the smallest act of kindness can encourage and inspire and create positive change. Over time, small actions compound to create larger impacts.

A Lighted Candle

Jesus said you are the light of the world, Matthew 5:14. Think of a candle being lit on a dark night. It may seem the candle is very limited in its reach. However, place that one candle in a window and its reach extends to over 1.6 miles, or 2.57 kilometres.

What if that one candle became 200 candles, or thousands of candles? The bible says that one shall move a thousand but two will move ten thousand, Deuteronomy 32:30.

To be an effective Power of One check  who you associate with. Connect with like-minded people who share your values so that you continue to uplift each other.

How to be the Power of One

To be the Power of One is to know that you can inspire change, overcome adversity, and influence others. As a follower of Christ you have an inner strength and power that is not available to unbelievers. Become a true embodiment of the Power of One by utilizing that power to God’s glory. Let being the Power of One be the thing that defines you.
