What are the Benefits of Being an Overcomer6 min read

What are the benefits of being an overcomer, as seen in the promises that are specific to the overcomer and there are eight of them. Through Christ and the indwelling Holy Spirit, John 14:23, we have the ability to overcome and receive the promised rewards.

Eternal Life

Revelation 2:7. To him who overcomes I will grant to eat of the tree of life which is in the Paradise of God. This is life in the New Jerusalem where those who have accepted Christ as their Saviour will live eternally in the presence of the Almighty God.

All because God gave His only begotten Son to die in our place, John 3:16. The Lamb that was slain before the foundation of the world, Revelation 13:8.

Judgement

Revelation 2:11. He who overcomes will not be hurt by the second death. All who reject Jesus Christ will be judged by a righteous God and cast into the lake of fire, which is the second and eternal death. While we walk on this earth we have a choice, but the moment we die the decision to have accepted or rejected God’s salvation will last eternally.

Unbelievers will face the great white throne of judgement, Revelation 20:11-15. A righteous judgement based on the choices they made on earth. Believers are not judged only given rewards for how they conducted themselves on earth.

Acquittal

Revelation 2:17. To him who overcomes, to him I will give some of the hidden manna. I will give him a white stone and a new name written on the stone, which no one knows but he who receives it.

The manna refers to Christ’s provision for the believer just as the Israelites were fed in the wilderness. Jesus is our hidden manna, for He is the bread of life, John 6:35.

The white stone points to the ancient custom of acquittal. Followers of Jesus cannot be judged and found guilty, Romans 8:1, for Christ took the punishment for their sin in their place, 2 Corinthians 5:15. The new name points to a total new identity in the heavenly realm.

Authority Over Nations

Revelation 2:26. He who overcomes and he who keeps My deeds until the end, to him will I give authority over the nations. He shall rule them with a rod of iron, as the vessels of the potter are broken to pieces, as I also have received authority from My Father. And I will give him the morning star.

Believers are heirs of God and joint-heirs in Christ, Romans 8:16. All that Christ is, so are His followers. Jesus said, I and My Father are one, John 10:30, so the believer has a personal relationship with God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. The saints of God will share the millennial rule of Christ and have authority over the natural nations who will inhabit the earth during the thousand year reign of Christ.

Satan is referred to as the morning star which showed his high position in heaven prior to his fall from heaven, Isaiah 14:12. Christ, however, is the faithful, true Morning Star Revelation 22:16, and Satan the evil counterfeiter.

Eternal Security

Revelation 3:5. He who overcomes will be clothed in white garments and I will not erase his name from the book of life. I will confess his name before My father and before His angels.

Note, the Bride of Christ has clothed herself in fine linen, pure and bright, while tribulation overcomers will be dressed in white garments.

The name of all believers will not be erased from the book of life. This infers that everyone’s name has been written in the book of life before the foundation of the world, Revelation 17:8. Those who reject God’s gift of salvation through Jesus Christ, will have their names eternally erased.

In the Presence of God

Revelation 3:12. He who overcomes I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God and he will not go out from it anymore. I will write on him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My new name.

The overcomer will spend eternity in the presence of Almighty I Am that I Am, Exodus 3:14, for we are God’s own possession. You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation. A people for God’s own possession, Deuteronomy 14:2, 1 Peter 2:9. They will have the name of God, just as a wife takes on her husband’s name and identity at the wedding ceremony.

Joint Rulers

Revelation 3:21. He who overcomes I will grant to him to sit down with Me in My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.

A kingdom infers there is a king who reigns over His people. Overcomers will have the privilege of being co-rulers with God the Father and God the Son.

Being seated is an acceptance of that authority. Jesus sits at the right hand of God interceding for His own, Romans 8:34. His earnest desire is that we will succeed as overcomers. It also declares that the relationship we develop on earth is the relationship we will take to heaven.

There will be those who only bear 30 fold harvest, 60 fold harvest and 100 fold harvest. Some Christians prefer to live with one foot in heaven, while still being part of the world. They reside in the Outer Court. Others agree to go on and yield 60 fold, dwelling in the Holy Place. The few are not satisfied until they move into the Most Holy Place, in the intense presence of God the Father. Jesus made this possible at Calvary through His death and resurrection. He made the way for us, John 14:6, to have a personal relationship with the Creator.

Final Overcomer Promise

Revelation 21:6. He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son.

These things are everything that Jesus Christ, the Son of God is, for He is Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. Overcoming is all about relationship and the fact that God knows the end from the beginning, Isaiah 46:10. He knows those who will accept Him and His way of life.

Through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, they are the true overcomers and will for all eternity reveal the magnitude of the mercy and love of the Heavenly Father. They are also sealed in Christ with the Holy Spirit of promise, Ephesians 1:13.

The question remains, why would you not want to be an overcomer?
