Sarah Palin is a woman of fire and ice, representing Alaska. She is again testing the waters in the political scene and standing for election in an open congressional seat in a comeback bid. This is despite her star fading over the last decade.
Woman Of Fire And Ice Persona
Palin may be charismatic, but she has a right-wing, bitter-clinging persona. Perhaps she represents the northern lights that create spectacular scenes in the night sky over Alaska, the land of fire and ice.
Sarah Louise Palin, an American politician, commentator, author, and reality television personality, never completely disappeared from public view. She has written books and starred in several reality TV specials and even dressed as a fuzzy pink bear.
Early Life
In high school, Palin earned the nickname ‘Sarah Barracuda’ because of her competitive streak. In 1984, she won the Miss Wasilla beauty pageant and came third in the Miss Alaska pageant and Miss Congeniality. This seems amazing in the light of her subsequent outspokenness.
Following graduation, Palin worked as a sportscaster. She began her political career in 1992 and completed two, three-year terms as mayor of Wasilla. Her reign as mayor was controversial on many fronts.
Ninth Governor Of Alaska
Sarah Palin, woman of fire, served as the ninth governor of Alaska from 2006 until her resignation in 2009. Palin was popular with the voters and determined to clean up Alaskan politics.
She was the 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee alongside U.S. Senator John McCain. Palin was the first woman to appear on the Republican presidential ticket and the first Alaskan on the national ticket of a major political party. She was the youngest person and first woman to be elected as the governor of Alaska. Palin claimed she had foreign policy experience because Russia was just across the border to Alaska.
Oil Industry And Bridge To Nowhere
Palin accepted an appointment to the Alaska Oil And Gas Conservation Commission. She knew nothing about the oil industry but oversaw Alaska’s oil and gas fields for safety and efficiency. A position she only held for only eleven months. Later she would promote the development of oil and natural-gas resources in Alaska, including drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
As governor of Alaska, Palin was popular with the voters, and determined to clean up Alaskan politics. A scandal erupted over the ‘Bridge to Nowhere.’ Federal funds of $442 million were involved, but when the bridge project was cancelled, the funds were never returned to the Federal government.
Palin was constantly embroiled in varying investigations. She and her husband, Tod Palin, ran up $500,000 in legal fees against investigations concerning ethics.
Sarah Palin Woman Of Fire And Vice-President Nomination
Salin Palin, woman of fire, was the 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee alongside U.S. Senator John McCain. Palin was the first woman to appear on the Republican presidential ticket and the first Alaskan on the national ticket of a major political party. She was the youngest person and first woman to be elected as the governor of Alaska.
In 2008 Palin gave an acceptance speech as running mate to John McCain. She gave a 40-minute speech at the Republican National Convention. Forty million people watched the speech.
Sarah Palin Woman Of Fire A Liability
Republicans later considered Palin as a liability and called for her resignation. “Her ideological flips were pretty stunning”, says Diane Hirshberg, director of the University of Alaska Institute of Social and Economic Reform. Palin spouted rabid run-on rambles and was a loose-lipped cannon.
Palin was never backward in speaking her mind, even when she made horrendous gaffs. In an interview on Glenn Beck’s radio show, Nov. 24, 2010, Palin said, “But obviously, we’ve got to stand with our North Korean allies.” She was known as ‘Going Rogue’ during the presidential campaign.
Obama won the election. McCain mentioned Palin in his concession speech. He said “Palin was one of the best campaigners I’ve ever seen, and an impressive new voice in our party for reform and the principles that have always been our greatest strength.” Palin went against the norm when she tried to make her own concession speech.
Fascinating Sarah Palin Woman Of Fire And Ice
Barbara Walters named Palin as one of America’s ’10 Most Fascinating People of 2008’. In 2010, Palin was selected as one of the world’s 100 most influential people by Time magazine.
Her book ‘Going Rogue: An American Life’ sold one million copies. Its rankings were comparable to memoirs from Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
Palin believed the Tea Party movement was the future of politics in America. The Tea Party didn’t achieve its aims, but it did unleash the politics of anger and blazed the trail for Donald Trump.
Palin’s Political Activities
Palin has endorsed numerous female candidates and is an accomplished fund raiser. She raised $1,000,000 for one candidate. In 2019, Palin endorsed Donald Trump for president.
In a political comeback, Palin, tech millionaire, Nick Begich III, and former Democratic ex-state house member, native Alaskan, Mary Sattler, are in the runoff for Alaska’s at-large congressional district special election. Only three candidates out of the initial 50 candidates.
Palin’s Beliefs
Palin opposes same-sex marriage and the right to abortion. She is a Life Member of the National Rifle Association and opposes banning semi-automatic assault weapons.
Sarah Palin is a supporter of off-shore drilling and land-based drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. She says, “I want our country to be able to trust the oil industry”. She considers she is a conservationist. Palin supports Julian Assange, calling for him to be pardoned.
Palin calls herself a “Bible-believing Christian”. Sarah and Todd were divorced in 2020. Tod cited ‘incompatibility of temperament’.
Palin has branded herself as a maverick and political outsider, but she has a very polarising personality. Maybe she can blaze her way into Washington, put all the progressive thinkers in their place and stir up toxic anger.
Sarah Palin Woman Of Fire
Heedless of what you think of Sarah Palin’s politics, she is a woman who has carried a high profile for many years. A woman who never quits, and is without limitations in a ‘man’s world’. She knows the value of a name, but has never backed off controversy. She is a woman with a voice and, like women everywhere, she has a sphere of influence that can be used for good.
