Nancy Pelosi is a prominent and powerful politician. Controversy is not new to Pelosi. Speaker Nancy Pelosi received the Order of Propitious Clouds with Special Grand Cordon during her recent controversial visit to Taiwan. It was Taiwan’s highest civilian honour.

China pushed up their military drills, encircling the waters around Taiwan during Pelosi’s visit. Drills that threatened the military peace in the area. The Chinese navy and air force dropped rockets into the water all around Taiwan and blockaded the waters around Taiwan. China doesn’t want a democratic nation only a few miles off its border.

China is cutting off communications with the United States, deliberately using the Pelosi visit to Taiwan. However, neither Washington nor Beijing are keen on provoking war.

Powerful Nancy Pelosi

Pelosi is second in the line of presidential succession after the vice president, occupying a central role in national government.

At age 82, soft-spoken Nancy Pelosi is a mother and grandmother. She is the most powerful woman in American politics. Pelosi is well known for her innate political acumen and is renowned for speaking her mind.

She commented on the recent decision by a radical Supreme Court decision to criminalise the right to abortion, “Women today have fewer rights than their mothers did.” Pelosi is a strong advocate of the rights of the LGBT community, children and women.

Nancy Pelosi believes women should play a larger role in politics. Ruth Ginsburg and Nancy Pelosi had a lot in common. Pelosi said, “Ruth Ginsberg’s passing is an incalculable loss for our democracy and for all who strive to build a better future for our children.” Both were advocates of Womanomics.

Nancy Pelosi’s Work Ethics

To gain her first rung on the political slippery ladder, Pelosi threw 100 house parties, recruited 4,000 volunteers, and raised $1 million in seven weeks.

Her work ethic is legendary. She barely sleeps, doesn’t drink coffee, and would rather drink hot water with lemon. Every day she enjoys The New York Times crossword and often eats New York Super Fudge Chunk ice cream for breakfast.

House Speaker

Pelosi was the Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011 and again since 2019. In 2016, Representative Tim Ryan challenged Pelosi’s right to the speaker’s seat. He lost 134 to 63.

Nancy is the only daughter and youngest of seven children from a political Italian-American family. Pelosi attended her first political convention at age 12. Her mother taught her the value of social networking.

Nancy Pelosi A Woman Of Firsts

Pelosi was first elected to Congress in 1987. She became the first woman to lead a party in Congress. Pelosi is the first Californian, the first Italian-American and the first woman to hold the position of Speaker of the House. She has survived 18 elections.

Pelosi was fully aware of the significance of her election to the speakership. During her acceptance speech, she said, “This is a historic moment—for the Congress, and for the women of this country. It is a moment for which we have waited over 200 years. Never losing faith, we waited through the many years of struggle to achieve our rights. But women weren’t just waiting; women were working. Never losing faith, we worked to redeem the promise of America that all men and women are created equal. For our daughters and granddaughters, today, we have broken the marble ceiling. For our daughters and our granddaughters, the sky is the limit. Anything is possible.”

There is a discriminatory ceiling that stops women and minorities from taking positions of power or responsibility, known as the glass or marble ceiling. Ivana Trump and women pioneers who changed the world are just some of the women who succeeded in breaking the ceiling.

Contentious Nancy Pelosi

Pelosi is characterised as a contentious political figure. This was reflected in her recent controversial visit to Taiwan. But that is the end of a long list of controversy.

In 2018, Pelosi declined to allow Trump to give the State of the Union Address in the House of Representatives during the government shutdown. In 2020, she publicly tore up Donald Trump’s State of the Union address. Her comment was, “That was the least I could do”.

Banned From Holy Communion

Pelosi is a devout Catholic. On May 20, 2022, the San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone announced Pelosi would be barred from receiving Holy Communion. He told Pelosi she had to repudiate her advocacy for abortion rights, or refrain from referring to her Catholic faith in public. If Pelosi failed to do this, he would have to make a declaration, in keeping with Canon 915. Pelosi could not take Holy Communion.

On June 29, 2022, Pelosi received Communion at a Papal Mass presided over by Pope Francis in Rome at St. Peter’s Basilica.

Net Worth

The net worth of Pelosi is said to be around $135 million. Both Pelosi and her husband, Paul, are share traders. In a recent financial disclosure, Pelosi stated that she and her husband have an estimated net worth of between $43 million and $202 million. It all depends on the valuation of her stock and real estate assets on the day.

Pelosi receives an annual wage of $223,000 for her role as Speaker of the House. Nancy Pelosi earns every cent. Check out her wikipedia site to see how much she has achieved while Speaker of the House.

We are not all Ruth Ginsburg or Nancy Pelosi, but women everywhere have a voice in their orb of influence. A voice that should be highly valued. Women who are the glue that holds society together.
