The work of the Holy Spirit is a great mystery as are all spiritual things. He is the life giver, Luke 1:35, and He raised Christ from the dead, Romans 8:11. He is at work in you.

The Holy Spirit was sent by the Father as a Helper to the followers of Christ, John 14:15-17. He is a Person of the Godhead, with all the attributes of God. None knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God, 1 Corinthians 2:11. Therefore we need to know the work of the Spirit.

New Creation

The Holy Spirit was an active participant in creation, Genesis 1:2, and is also in the new creation, 2 Corinthians 5:17. The Spirit convicts individuals of sin, John 16:8, and leads them to repentance. It is the Spirit of God that draws us to true fellowship with God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, but that which is born of the Spirit is spirit, John 3:6.

You were washed, sanctified, and justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the Spirit of our God, 1 Corinthians 6:11. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” Galatians 4:6.

The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God and if children, then heirs also. Heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, Romans 8:16,17. You are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you, Romans 8:9.

The Seal

Everyone who receives Jesus as their personal Saviour and Lord is born again. They receive the Holy Spirit at salvation. The Spirit seals them as God’s own and is the guarantee of their inheritance, Ephesians 1:13, 14. However, the baptism of the Holy Spirit, or infilling, may be a subsequent experience. Just like water baptism is a subsequent experience.

The Spirit indwells the ones who love God and keep His word, John 14:23, doing a deep internal work of conviction that becomes a journey of transformation. The eternal Spirit of promise, Ephesians 1:13, is the One who empowers the believer to a life of righteousness. 

The Spirit helps us in our weaknesses. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us through wordless groans, Romans 8:26. He helps us guard the treasure, the gospel, that has been entrusted to us, 2 Timothy 1:14.

Power of the Holy Spirit

Jesus did not begin His ministry until He was anointed with the Holy Spirit, John 3:16. He also said to His disciples, You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, Acts 1:8.

All true followers of Christ operate from the power of the Holy Spirit. This is not a one-off thing, but a continuous infilling of the Spirit of God, Ephesians 5:18. We are therefore, to fellowship the Holy Spirit, 2 Corinthians 13:14.

Your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own, 1 Corinthians 6:19,20. And He (the Father) who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit. Because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God, Romans 8:27.

Teacher

But you have an anointing from the Holy One and all of you know the truth, 1 John 2:20. The anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you. But as His anointing teaches you about all things and is true and is not a lie. Just as it has taught you, you abide in Him, 1 John 2:27.

We have received not the spirt of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, 1 Corinthians 2:12. We impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual, 1 Corinthians 2:13.

These things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God, 1 Corinthians 2:10. The things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Things into which angels long to look, 1 Peter 1:12.

Mind and the Spirit

The Holy Spirit regenerates the heart of the believer, 2 Corinthians 5:17. We need circular thinking, where the Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit are our pivotal point. Our mind is regenerated, and we need to train it to think on heavenly things, Colossians 3:2.

Christ Jesus, the law of the Spirit who gives life, has set you free from the law of sin and death, Romans 8:2. We do not live according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit…..Those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.

The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace, Romans 8:4-6. This being the fruit of the Spirit.

Fruit of the Spirit

You will know them by their fruits, Matthew 7:16. There are nine fruit of the Spirit, Galatians 5:22,23. But we need to honour the Author of that fruit – the Holy Spirit.

The greatest fruit is the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit. Just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call. One Lord, one faith, one baptism, Ephesians 4:1-32.

Grieving the Holy Spirit

Blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. Either in this age or in the age to come, Matthew 12:31,32.

Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption, Ephesians 4:30. You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your father did, so do you, Acts 7:51.

How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out, Acts 5:9.

Work of the Spirit

If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you, 1 Peter 4:14. You know when a person is full of the Holy Spirit for by His fruit you shall know Him. The Person of the Holy Spirit is at work in the life of that person.
